First off I need to say thank you so much to everyone who has been praying for our family this past week, the car accident was quite a shock for our family, and the surgery on my hand is still a work in progress.  The plan is to get it all done tomorrow and hopefully finally get healed up.  Many of you have asked about insurance for the car.  Thankfully the car was insured, and it looks like we are going to be able to get a claim processed to get another vehicle for our family.  In the mean time we are driving a rental and just happy to be together and that it was not worse.

Anyhow, enough about that.

This week we are blessed to be hosting Jeff and Karen Merry here in Ethiopia with us.  Karen is a trauma counselor who is here helping work with our staff and our moms in the area of helping our children move forward in life despite of all the hardships they have been through.  We don’t talk about it all often because we feel it would be exploitive to air all of the dirty laundry in their lives, but many of our kids have been through terrible and traumatic things. Some have seen their parents murdered, or been exploited in terrible ways, others have been abused and have scars to show for it.  Suffice it to say, the process of accepting love is often a long one for these kids.  We pray for them every day in their personal journey of healing.   This week with Karen’s help we are getting a chance to dive deep into the theology of trauma healing, and learning all about ways that we, our staff and our mothers can help in this process.

We want to ask that you pray with us for this time, all of us are learning valuable skills that will help these kids, and we need God to move to make this all stick so that it will not just stay as head knowledge but that this will become a turning point in these children’s precious lives. So so many of these kids bring things with them that are going to be hard to forget, and complicated to move past, but with God’s help we are sure they can be turned into positive memories that God will use for good.

God is in the business of healing!

I could write pages about all that we are learning, but my hand is killing me here and so I need to stop here with a request that you pray with us for these kids and this learning that is happening.  Here are a few pictures that Jessie took during the morning session today.
