Omo Valley Ethiopia

Omo Hope Ethiopia provides a safe, nurturing home and quality education for the rescued Mingi children from the Omo Valley tribes.

Hey there, welcome to our new website!  Even though we’ve got a new look, we are still the same organization with the same mission for orphans in Ethiopia.  Feel free to reach out through the contact page if you have any questions.

Omo Hope in Ethiopia

Omo Hope founder Lale Labuko was born into the Ethioia’s Kara tribe. Lale was also the first within his tribe to get a formal education and come to realize the importance of ending Mingi’s devastating and outdated tribal practice.

Mingi led to the death of Lale’s older sisters before he was born; since learning of this, Lale has made it his mission to permanently outlaw and end Mingi. His work through Omo Home goes towards creating a better, safer future for the current and future generations of tribal members.

With your help, Omo Home can continue to grow and improve the lives of others.

What is Mingi?

Mingi is the ritualistic execution of infants and children whose tribes deem their physical abnormalities as curses.

About Omo Hope

Lale Labuko

Co-Founder

After learning that his sister fell victim to Mingi, Lale, at a young age, became determined to end the practice in his tribe. After years of delicate persistence in his tribe, Lale not only ended Mingi, but also recused and adopted 50 children along the way.

Gido Labuko

Co-Founder

Gido is Lale’s wife and the mother to their three children. Gido’s adamance about recusing and caring for children made her an adamant part in starting Omo Hope.

Thanks to the help of our full-time nannies, Omo Hope is able to care for children in need!
