I have to admit to you about something that has been bothering me, but I am almost afraid to say it…   I hesitate because well, I worry, I wonder.

What if you don’t agree with me?

But then I started to do a study in my bible to find what was in there about the topic.  And instead of seeing a coin with two sides, and a reason that some might go one way or another.

I started to get frustrated when I realized just how far off we are from what God intended.

Look with me for a second at this one verse, and notice what it is that is being said.

James 1:27

Pure and undefiled religion in the sight of our God and Father is this: to visit orphans and widows in their distress, and to keep oneself unstained by the world.

Notice that it does not say

Pure and undefiled religion in the sight of our God and Father is this: to build great big places in which to meet, and keep yourselves from mixing with those who do not believe.

Think though what would happen to the orphans and widows around the world who we were instructed to meet in their distress, if instead of building new fancy churches to meet in we gave that money to help the poor.

This might bother you, and because of that for the past few weeks I have hesitated to post this, even though I was burning on my heart.  But, now I am past being worried if this bothers anyone any more.

 Forget that.

Instead I am furious that we as a church missed the boat and are so far off coarse.  I believe that Jesus would go on a rampage, turning temple tables if he were to come back today and see the grandiose efforts and resources that we have allotted to building places where we meet once a week to worship him.
